Runic Stones

...

Runic Stones playing at the high school for a fashion show involving Shirlees Shoppe.
The Runic Stones were formed by merging two other bands and first performed in Shelburne, where they played most Friday evenings.
The original members were (Bill Dexter, lead guitar; Bob Vacon, vocalist, Don Rodgerson, bass, Ray d'Entremont, rhythm and Fred Hatfield on drums.)
Dexter, d’Entremont and Hatfield played with The Montereys before The Runic Stones. When Ray went to University, Gary Goodwin replaced him; later Bill Dexter was replaced by Duke Green.. The Stones had a more Rolling Stones, raunchy sound with Dexter and became a far more polished group with Duke. Finally, Bob Vacon and Don Rodgerson were in a band together just prior to the formation of The Runic Stones; They were called
The Catalinas. The Stones were the merging of these two groups
They appeared on CBC's Music Hop television series in the 1960s we were the first band from Yarmouth to receive nation-wide television exposure. The members of the band on that show were Bill Dexter,Bob Vacon, Don Rodgerson, Gary Goodwin and Fred Hatfield. They played two songs (Get off my Cloud by the Rolling Stones and What I Say by Ray Charles.)
When Fred quit the band Harold Grandy replaced him until that incarnation of the group broke up.
